Do you have a writing routine? Where and when do you write?
I wish I had a routine. It would make my writing life sooo much easier.
What do you do when you hit a wall in your writing? Are you a “pantser” or a “plotter”?
I’m a plotster.
When I hit a wall I either talk the problem through with other writers, or I complete a scene card.
What’s the last book that made you go “wow!”?
Newberry Medal and National Book Award winner, Holes by Louis Sachar. It’s a book written for children. When I got to the end, I said wow. I did something I never do. I went back to the beginning and started reading the book again.
It was a book I read aloud to my fourth-grade class every year. It was a book I suggested 4 of my students read. At the selected time, we discussed the novel during silent reading time, much like a book club. These were 4 boys. They LOVED the book and others students read the novel after listening to us talk about the story.

What book or author do you find yourself recommending, and why?
Penny Reid. I like her way with words, her character development, and her unique storytelling ability.
What’s the first book you can remember reading on your own?
The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins by Dr. Seuss
What books and/or authors have most influenced you as an author?
Susan Elizabeth Phillips
What do you most enjoy about being a writer? What do you least enjoy?
I enjoy creating stories that allow the reader to escape into a world I created.
I hate making people struggle with their inner demons.
What might people be surprised to know about you?
“The Matchmaker Chronicles” is a result of my grief.
My middle son died. The emotional toll gutted and sucked the life out me. I spent 3 years rewriting the first 3 chapters of my work in progress. One of my critique partners, Janis McCurry, asked me how I’d feel about working together on a novel. I already had the concept of a meddling mother in mind. We added a friend and partner in crime.
These novels contain two stories. One written by me and the other written by my writing partner, Janis McCurry. The matchmakers are the bridge that connects the stories.
