Idaho’s (anti)Library Law

“The Donnelly Public Library, along with students, librarians, parents, and several of the world’s largest publishing companies, are suing the State of Idaho.  A complaint filed today in U.S. District Court says a law adopted last year by the Idaho Legislature violates federally protected free speech rights by censoring books available in public libraries.”

There’s been numerous reports of the suit that’s been filed. Here is the BoiseDev article for more details.

Libraries Hard at Work Preserving History

“Every four years, before and after the U.S. presidential election, a team of libraries and research organizations, including the Internet Archive, work together to preserve material from U.S. government websites during the transition of administrations.”

AI-generated Books Foisted on Libraries

“Low quality books that appear to be AI generated are making their way into public libraries via their digital catalogs, forcing librarians who are already understaffed to either sort through a functionally infinite number of books to determine what is written by humans and what is generated by AI, or to spend taxpayer dollars to provide patrons with information they don’t realize is AI-generated.”

TL/DR: Avoid Hoopla app, in favor of OverDrive/Libby. And just be wary/aware.
